Spring Clinics gives swimmers a chance to review the basics and get ready for regular-season practices. The program emphasizes proper stroke technique, starts, reading the clock, circle swimming, and breath control.
Swimmers must be able to complete 1 full lap of the pool unassisted. All new 6 and under (including previous Little Devils) must complete a swim evaluation with a coach before starting practice. Check out our evaluation page to view team expectations and schedule an evaluation. Email Coach Greg with questions about Clinics or evaluations.
Practices are held at the Danville Station pool.
Registration
Equipment
Coaches ask that swimmers come to each practice with the following:
- Goggles
- Kickboard
- Fins (slips-ons, NOT straps)
- Practice suit (no baggy suits and no swim shirts)
- Cap (for those swimmers with long hair)
You can buy equipment and practice suits at our Swim Outlet Store.
In the Summer, these practice suits can be used for competitions until your summer suit is ordered. Swimmers are strongly recommended to have a team suit and cap for swim meets.
Our team store sells team caps, and our Squadlocker has options for more apparel. Families can order through Amazon or Sports Basement. First-time families should go to Sports Basement or another local sporting goods store to try on their fins.

Group Assignment
Red Group
The Red Group is designed for all swimmers ages U7 and for new* 8-year-olds who are water-safe and can swim one full lap (25 yards) unassisted. This group focuses on building strong foundations in legal freestyle and backstroke, with continued introduction to breaststroke and butterfly. Practices emphasize body position, breathing, coordination, and comfort following structured practice routines. Swimmers are primarily prepared to race 25-yard events, and depending on the season, in-water instruction may be provided to support skill development. Swimmers must be able to listen and follow instructions, communicate clearly, use the restroom independently, manage basic equipment (goggles/fins), and safely enter and exit the pool without using stairs or ladders.
*New: A swimmer who has never completed a season of summer recreational swimming or year-round USA Swimming on a swim team.
White Group
The White Group is designed for all swimmers ages 8–10 and new* 11-year-olds who are water-safe, can swim at least two full laps (50 yards), and are legal in three or more strokes. Swimmers continue refining technique in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly while building endurance through continuous swimming. Athletes are introduced to and expected to use a pace clock, learn to swim on intervals, and begin managing longer practice sets. Swimmers are prepared to race primarily 50-yard events, with some 25s as needed. There are no in-water instructors. Swimmers must be able to independently manage their equipment, follow multi-step directions, read a digital or analog pace clock, circle swim safely, and transition between sets with minimal reminders.
*New: A swimmer who has never completed a season of summer recreational swimming or year-round USA Swimming on a swim team.
Black Group
The Black Group is designed for all swimmers ages 11 and older who can swim at least four full laps (100 yards) and are legal in all four strokes. This group emphasizes advanced stroke technique, stamina, and race preparation, including structured swim, kick, and drill sets completed on a pace clock with changing intervals. Swimmers train for 50- and 100-yard events and are expected to manage their equipment, timing, and transitions independently. Practices are fast-paced and challenging, with a strong focus on accountability, effort, and preparation for championship-level competition. There are no in-water instructors. Swimmers must be able to fully manage their equipment and time, read and adjust to changing pace-clock intervals, complete complex multi-step sets independently, circle swim efficiently, and demonstrate consistent focus, accountability, and self-management throughout practice.
NOTE: Swimmer age is based on the swimmer’s age as of June 15 of this year.
