Swimmer evaluations help the Danville Sea Devils place athletes at the level that best matches their current abilities while maintaining a safe and productive practice environment. During evaluations, swimmers ages 8 and under must be able to swim one full 25-yard length of the pool unassisted, while swimmers ages 9 and older must be able to swim two full lengths of the pool (50 yards). These evaluations ensure that swimmers are water safe, can actively participate in practices, and are prepared for the structure and expectations of a swim team. The evaluation process also helps families understand that the Danville Sea Devils is not a learn-to-swim program, but a team environment designed for swimmers who already have foundational skills and are ready to continue developing their technique, endurance, and confidence in the water.
Depending on the coach's schedule, we will potentially do evaluations upon request. Email Coach Greg.
Swim Team Evaluations
Before each season (Spring, Summer, and Fall), the ALL-NEW FAMILIES WILL BE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE AN EVALUATION. Our evaluations are intended for new swimmers to ensure they are ready to meet the team's expectations. These evaluations help confirm that swimmers are water safe and prepared to actively participate in practices.
For new U8 swimmers to join our swim team, they must be able to:
1. Completely submerge
2. Jump into the pool from the side without help
3. Float and kick on their back for 5-yards
4. Kick one length* of the pool with a kickboard
5. Unassisted head down swim for one length* of the pool
For new 9 Up swimmers to join our swim team, they must be able to:
1. Jump into the pool hands first (dive)
2. Submerge and swim underwater for 5 yards
3. While floating, kick on their back for 15 yards
4. Kick two lengths* (50 yards) of the pool with a kickboard
5. Unassisted head down swim for two lengths* (50 yards) of the pool
* Each length of the pool is 25-yards
Note: Coaches will NOT be in the water during these evaluations.
Little Devils Evaluations
Before each of our two Little Devils seasons (Summer; June & July then Fall; August & September), we need to evaluate our potential Little Devils (members of our pre-team). Our Little Devils program typically only takes swimmers that will be 7 & under. The reason is that we ideally would like swimmers to be able to compete at least one year in races that are one length (25-yards) of the pool. All evaluations are upon request or during specific drop-in dates.
Our new Little Devils must be able to:
1. Blow bubbles
2. Completely submerge
3. Float on their back
4. Push away from the wall and safely return
5. Swim 5-yards (to the backstroke flags)
Note: Coaches will be in the water during these evaluations.
